Presentation Skills
Everything’s A Presentation…Who’s On Stage?
People’s perception of how to do a presentation is all over the board. This is a broad subject and there have been a number of books devoted to just speaking or presenting. Since this site is dedicated to sales we won’t devote the whole time to presentation skills, but we will give you some guidelines to follow that we hope will help you.
We would highly recommend that you pick up a book or two on the subject and learn more. There are some really good things to know. Most important, though, is practice. You learn to speak through practice, not reading. Reading just gives you good things to incorporate in your practice.
One other thing, whenever you are in front of another person having a conversation, a discussion, a debate, etc., it is all a presentation. When you do a job interview, it’s a presentation. When you ask for a raise, it is a presentation.
So get good at this piece. It is all a presentation and it is all communication. If you want to see someone in action, go back and watch Ronald Reagan, former president of the United States. He was called the great communicator. Whether you liked him or not or liked his presidency or not doesn’t matter. His ability to engage people and draw them in was uncanny. He made you believe and everything he did was a presentation.
Maybe he learned that as an actor, we don’t know, but it transferred over well to the political stage. We too want to be great communicators and presenters. Let’s talk about how we can do that.
We want to give you some presentation pointers right now:
