Another Alternative to Cold Calling

I was working with a sales person the other day who told me a great story about how she got business in a very short 2 hours.

She and her two staff members got together for two hours one day and went out to a specific area that this sales person wanted to target. She had little postcards made up with a very clear message about what they were doing. On the cards they attached a small packet of cookies that they bought at a discount store. For two hours they passed these cards out to potential customers and had some fun doing it. All three of them went to separate parts of the targeted area to maximize their time.

It's important to note that they didn't push anyone or even try and talk them into anything to buy. They just passed out there cards which had some good information to a lot of people. The cookies helped too I'm sure! Food does magic things.

The sales rep told me that in two hours they saw 140 prospects, got 6 new customers to date, and have made over $8000 so far. The orders are still coming in and the residual effect is continuing. The total cost for the cards and cookies, $30. Unbelievable how inexpensive a small program like this is. And what an impact!

I think this is a great story to illustrate the power behind using your mind to find alternative ways to cold calling. In two hours they saw 140 prospects. This rep told me that usually she at most only sees 70 people in a week, if she's lucky and doesn't have anywhere near the success as far as new customers or revenue.

I told her she needs to do more campaigns like this then. Spend your time and focus on things that work. If something is not working as well and you do more of it, you will end up with more failure. When you find a great tool use it and keep using it until it doesn't work anymore.

As a builder builds a home he doesn't do it with just a hammer. He uses many tools to accomplish the task. Cold calling shouldn't be the only tool in your belt to build your career. You have to think of the other tools, but we do need the training to understand what the other tools are.

What are the other tools that you can use? We will give you more tools to use in another article below.
